Nas, Dave East, and Aloe Blacc collaborated with Lin-Manuel Miranda on a track called “Wrote My Way Out” in the fall of 2016. The track was featured on the “mixtape” for the Hamilton Broadway musical which premiered January of 2015. The mixtape, titled The Hamilton Mixtape was released in December of 2016 and debuted at number one on the Billboard album chart.
The track’s meaning should be self-explanatory; all four artists on the track are accomplished writers and all four delivered compelling lyrics of how their pen allowed them to escape hardships. The video, which is in black-and-white, accurately captures the song’s mood and intentions.
The video may also serve as more promotion for Dave East, as his second Extended Play Paranoia 2 just released last Tuesday (January 16).
