Ever since Star Search cinematically birth Beyonce and Aaliyah into our world, Hip-Hop has been itching for a head-to-head talent show that would make us pay attention.

Now, let me preface this by saying… SHOWTIME AT THE APOLLO DOESN’T COUNT IN THIS CONVERSATION. We all know that there are certain TV shows like The Apollo, The (original) Arsenio Hall Show and Martin are sacred and so to sully them in this conversation would immediately revoke our Black cards. So let’s not even go there.

Shows like American Idol, The Voice, X Factor (all the incarnations of it) and America’s Got Talent have been been knocking on our doors. They have even produced some hot R&B/ Hip-Hop acts like Astro, Khelani and yes J Hud, but do then tickle our fancy? Nooooo…

The Rap Game blazes (all four seasons), but to its chagrin the artists don’t make us wanna jump up and slap our mothers. These very talented kids make us wanna jump jump and reminisce about how dope Jermaine Dupri is and how all you have to do is give him some scotch tape, a mic and paperclip and he can find the next Kriss Kross. He is without a doubt and ‘O.G.’ but even that show is not the best on air.

The best talent show on air (and we might add ever… remembering that Showtime At The Apollo is not included) is The Four.

The Four: Battle for Stardom is produced on Fox and stars judges P. Diddy, DJ Khaled, Megan Trainor and Charlie Walk. Almost as if they heard Wendy Williams whisper that tea into the air, they scooped for their host Fergie from The Blackeyed Peas. The show has four artists that are positioned as the top dogs to beat. Singer or rapper, whichever grabs the mic steps up to sing before the judges. If they get a four ring approval, they get to challenge head-to-head one of the four. The battles are ferocious. For the last few weeks, it has been the subject of loud water cooler conversation. Usually, the wins are undisputed but sometimes they are mildly debatable.

None are ever heartbreaking… well that was until last night.

Last night the show front-runner, Zhavia was challenged and bumped. The Source fell in love with her the very first episode. Clearly, we weren’t the only ones.  Zhavia’s fans went ham. They got the #TheFourComeBack hashtag trending in hopes to get the show producers attention. They are clear, they want their girl back. They want our girl back.
