This past Sunday, the 60th annual Grammy Awards was held in New York City at the Madison Square Garden. The event was nothing short of epic, from high fashion on the red carpet to dope performances. One performance that began trending on social media was Rihanna performing her hit song ‘Wild Thoughts’ with Dj Khaled and Bryson Tiller. Towards the end of her performance, she hit the audience with a dance move that got everybody including viewers watching at home to get up out of their seats.

Apparently, she was doing the ‘Gwara Gwara’ dance, which is the famous South African dance move created by the popular Dj Bongz. According to TshisaLIVE DJ Bongz said that he was honored that Rihanna used the dance move in her show-stopping act.
“I created the dance from scratch and it feels so special to have it shown on an international stage like the Grammys. It shows that Africa can make a big impact on international dance.”
Bongz believes that this is just the beginning of Gwara Gwara popularity and he hopes that it would soon be used by other artists in their performances.
“I don’t know what the next step is but it will be become bigger. This is a great moment for both me and South Africa.”

The 60th Annual Grammy Awards were lit! They had @rihanna and her dancers do the Gwara Gwara, or could this be the revival of the stanky leg? #YestoBlackExcellence pic.twitter.com/Tk7VlKEDHn

If Rihanna doing the gwara gwara isn't proof that South Africa is also influencing world pop culture I don't know what is. #Grammys. https://t.co/xesQFfs6VF
