During Trump’s controversial State of the Union Address the Black Caucus stood in solidarity with African countries.

After Donald Trump’s comment heard ‘round the world, black lawmakers had their own symbolic answer for his “sh*thole countries” comment. Wearing what is known as Kente Cloth, members of the democratic party wore the African garb in defiance of the President’s policies on immigration. Kente cloth is deeply intertwined with the history of the Ashanti nation in Africa. A people there known as the Ashanti are members of the Akan people who speak the Akan or Ashanti dialect. The word “Kente” which means basket comes from the Akan or Ashanti dialect.

In a stoic response to President Trump taking credit for the prior administration’s win’s concerning unemployment and the economy that sent fact checkers frantically rushing to their keyboards, members of the National Black Caucus offered no reaction to his speech.

In a recent interview on CNN Jay-Z spoke out on Trump’s views on African nations and his current economic policies which included his superbug statement. “You treat people like human beings. That’s the main point,” he said. “It goes back to the whole thing — ‘treat me really bad and pay me well.’ It’s not going to lead to happiness, it’s going to lead to, again, the same thing. Everyone’s going to be sick.” Jay-Z alluded that the president may have kept policies that Obama initiated, maybe even accelerated, but definitely not solely responsible. Fact checker’s at the National Black Caucus tweeted this:

Those numbers stand in stark contrast than the original barb that Trump levied at Hov, in a recent tweet.

Once again when it comes to the numbers, Trump comes up short. However, some viewers of the SOTU address had a different take away from the unified strength of black lawmakers. Some Marvel fans referred to black lawmakers as the delegation from Wakanda. Which is a reference to Black Panther (which premiered yesterday), who is from the most technologically advanced nation on earth. Wakanda is noted as a fictional country in Africa which was never colonized and sports a hero who is a proud African king with the fighting prowess of Batman and the IQ of Iron Man.
