Former American Idol star Jordin Sparks lost her 16- year old step sister, Bryanna Jackson-Frias on Jan. 31 to sickle cell anemia, which is an inherited disease of the red blood cells that causes infections and pain. Bryanna battled this disease for most of her life. Jordin shared the news about her sister’s condition briefly after she was hospitalized via Instagram. “Please keep my little sister, Bryanna in your prayers. She’s suffering from complications from Sickle cell and is in the ICU fighting for her life.”

Unfortunately, Bryanna lost her battle the next day, as Jordin’s mom confirmed the devastating news on her Facebook page. Jodi Jackson wrote under a photo of the teen saying, “Bry went peacefully to Heaven. I can’t help to think that she’s smiling just like this. Thank you all for your prayers. #bonuskid #prettygirl #sicklecellsux #stepmommylove.” With a baby on the way, Jordin has been facing a lot in the past week. Not only losing her step sister, but her cousin,  and close friend and former American Idol star Leah LaBelle, and her former NBA star husband Rasual Butler who died in a tragic car wreck in LA Jan. 31.

Posting a photo of Leah and Rasual on her Instagram, Jordin wrote,

“Four angels in a week. My heart is just so heavy & broken. I’m in shock, numb and feel everything all at the same time. Leah & Rasual (one of my closets friends and her amazing partner), Bryanna (my step sister) and Q (my little cousin), you were such bright lights in this crazy world. You made everyone better just by knowing them. And your smiles made anyone’s day better. The world is less sparkly without you in it. Rest In Peace and Power. I Love you forever.”

Jordin also added,

“Tomorrow is not promised to any of us. Don’t ever skip a chance to tell someone you appreciate them or how much you love them. Please, please continue to cover their families and our family with thoughts and prayers.”

Our hearts and prayers go out to Jordin and her family during this difficult time.
