With an abundance of new talented rappers vying for limited space at the top of the charts, Lil Yachty, who experienced some growing pains with his first solo album, Teenage Emotions, will need to prove that he has what it takes to navigate his boat through some tough waters.

If the hype is to be believed, Lil Boat 2, the rapper’s sophomore full album, which drops on March 9, is on course to do just that – and provide fans with wave after wave of new hits.

The announcement came yesterday as his entire Instagram feed was deleted except for one photo announcing Lil Boat 2’s release date, which coincidentally comes two years to the day after the release of his first mix tape.

Over the last two years, Lil Yachty has proved his talents as a rapper. After all, he did coin his own genre of music- “bubblegum trap,” a niche that few new rappers have managed to carve out for themselves with such limited experience under their belt.

While album details are still under wraps, Yachty is busy with an overwhelming number of new projects including reported collaborations with Gucci Mane and Migos for a Glacier Boyz project, as well as a collaboration with Takeoff

The few snippets that Yachty has shared with the public show a more refined sound than past albums, as well as original beats with a wider variation of speed and tempo – perhaps just what the rapper needs to solidify himself as a serious contender for major label superstar.

While the album promises to deliver more diverse beats and lyrics without sacrificing his original sound, showing Lil Yachty’s range and perhaps, demonstrating that his talents aren’t just limited to “bubblegum trap” music, it’s still likely that he won’t deviate too far from his original base – still giving fans that ‘pop’ that they crave.
