When working an album, most artists like to grind out studio sessions in one location with only the project on their mind — just them, their producers, and engineers in a secluded location grinding out tracks. They might even disappear from social media for a long period of time like Nicki Minaj did while working on her Queen album. But Cardi B’s approach was different.

In her Rolling Stone interview with Offset, Cardi reveals that her pregnancy affected her ability to record her debut album Invasion of Privacy. Around the time the “Bodak Yellow” rapper began working on the album she found out that she was expecting. This was the beginning of a grueling recording process not just for Cardi, but for her whole team.

After finding out through the media that their artist was pregnant, Atlantic Records recommended that Cardi record her album far from New York to avoid family and friend distractions.

But while in Los Angeles, Cardi’s hormones and drowsiness from the pregnancy made it difficult for her to work on music. Bardi’s Instagram followers may remember the Bronx rapper posting videos from inside the booth during recording sessions expressing how exhausted she was.

With the album on a deadline and a laundry list of public appearances she was committed to, Cardi’s engineers and producers agreed to travel with the soon to be mother across the U.S. to finish the album. Atlanta, Miami, and New York became three of the locations where Cardi worked on the LP.

According to Rolling Stone, Cardi would sleep “some nights in the studio; others, she would try to get a good night’s rest to maintain her health for herself and the baby.

“I was blown away by her stamina…” Atlantic Records CEO Craig Kallman told Rolling Stone. “… plus her inner strength and her creative instincts.”

With the album grind now out of the way, the now 7 1/2 month pregnant rapper can sit back and enjoy the fruits of her labor before giving birth to her baby girl. Invasion of Privacy went Gold within hours of its release and debuted at number 1 on the Billboard charts.

Following the birth of her daughter, Cardi B will tour with Bruno Mars starting in September and says that she will have her baby girl with her the entire time.
