The latest shocking move from the Trump administration was their zero-tolerance policy in regards to immigrants at the Mexican border. The result of the policy has separated families and isolated children into facilities away from parents. Many have had strong reactions and unfavorable sentiments toward the administration’s decision such as Rachel Maddow who attempted to resist an on-air breakdown. The issue affects Hip-Hop as well, with Nicki Minaj providing a testimony on Instagram of her relocation to America.

“I came to this country as an illegal immigrant @ 5 years old. I can’t imagine the horror of being in a strange place & having my parents stripped away from me at the age of 5,” Minaj shared. “This is so scary to me. Please stop this. Can you try to imagine the terror & panic these kids feel right now? Not knowing if their parents are dead or alive, if they’ll ever see them again…”

Wednesday (June 20) Trump signed an executive order which stops the separation of parents but is a minor fix. There is currently no plan to reunite the children who are held in “tender age” shelters. It also results in the indefinite detention of families at the border. One “solution” created another issue. After the signing, the President stated “I think anybody with a heart would feel strongly about it. We don’t like to see families separated.”

Trump continues to boast about the strength of the border and the fact that it is “zero tolerance.” On Twitter Wednesday morning, he acknowledges the issue of border control, however, he passed the blame to Democrats citing they want open borders while Republicans hope for security.
