XXXTentacion is the first artist to have the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100 posthumously this century. The feat is achieved with his single “SAD!”
The single experienced a jump in positioning from number 52 to the top spot following his death on June 18. Prior to this most recent surge, XXX’s “SAD!” had a peak of number seven on the storied chart. It is the first single to posthumously reach the top since The Notorious B.I.G. did so with “Mo Money Mo Problems” back in 1997. “SAD!” was XXXTentacion’s first number one record.
Billboard reports the album was streamed 48.9 million times in the past week, which is a 264 percent increase.
XXX’s treck to the top of the charts had some strong opposition. Cardi B’s “I Like It” was skyrocketing toward the top spot in weeks prior while Drake’s “Nice for What” held down the top spot for the past seven weeks. Juice WRLD’s “Lucid Dreams” experienced a jump to the number four spot.
For those looking to say their last goodbye’s to XXXTentacion, his public funeral will be this coming Wednesday in Florida. The funeral and fan memorial will be at the BB&T Center. It has also recently reported that XXX would have been a father and bought homes for family members.
