When every major album drops there appears to be a record that is conquered on Spotify. Drake’s latest Scorpion is the latest to break records. Packed with 25 songs total over two sides, the latest solo effort from the OVO head honcho is broke the opening day streaming record for Spotify, which was recently owned by Post Malone’s effort beerbongs & bentleys.
Music Business Worldwide brings the new of Drake’s achievement stating that the new album was streamed 132 million times, 132,384,203 times to be exact, worldwide on the opening day. In comparison, Post Malone came in at 78 million.
The most popular track was “Nonstop” from Side A bringing in over 9 million plays, which lapped Taylor Swift’s “Look What You Made Me Do,” which held the record for a single. Spotify also boasts that the new album was streamed 10 million times an hour on Friday.
Drake’s numbers for Spotify alone are impressive and that doesn’t include the work that the 6ix God did on Apple Music or TIDAL. However, Drake’s album currently holds the top 25 spots on the iTunes charts.
Numbers aside, Scorpion has sparked conversation across the game: Michael Jackson’s nephew is not in favor of his feature on the album, Waka Flocka is critical of Jay-Z’s feature verse and many, including himself, are adjusting the Drizzy’s venture into fatherhood.
