A while back there was controversy surrounding the spin-off Fast and Furious film Hobbs and Shaw and if it was proper timing. That talk has died down and now we know Idris Elba will be villain cast opposite of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Jason Statham.
Variety reports Elba is in final negotiations for the film, which will have Deadpool 2 director David Leitch and one of the minds behind Fast and Furious on the pen as in Chris Morgan.
For those who may be unfamiliar with Hobbs and Shaw, Johnson and Statham star as the characters Luke Hobbs and Deckard Shaw, respectively, who were enemies that found themselves on the same side in the last Fast and Furious film.
The Rock double-downed on the news on Instagram by welcoming the actor to the cast and acknowledging their want to work together for some time.
“For years we’ve been waiting for the right opportunity to work together and this film is the perfect one,” The Rock wrote. “Every great hero needs an even greater villain.”
The news for Elba comes at a time where he also has made a splash in music. The British star recently launched his 7Wallace record label, which boasts James BKS as the flagship artist.
