New Balance has a wide range of perfect runner silhouettes, but the 998 is definitely up there as one of the finest in the vault. That’s why it comes as a pleasant surprise that the Bostonian footwear giant is giving the shoe a clean new colorway for us to rock this summer.
The two primary hues used in the construction process are teal and navy, but that doesn’t mean the signature crisp white laces and grey suede side panels aren’t standout features as well. The mix of patterns — a mesh toebox, suede midfoot and reflective heel counter do the trick — blend together perfectly to create one quality pair of kicks. The only question that remains isn’t if these are worth copping, but more like what should you cop to complete your fresh ‘fit. A pair of blue denim jeans might work best in this situation, but you can’t go wrong with some basketball shorts or a lightweight pair of chinos either.
