The mixtape’s title correlates with the Independence Day release and Dom Kennedy’s position in the music industry as an independent artist who has done well for himself without major label backing.
Addicted to the Underground is a 9-track project featuring Cuzzy Capone and Smoke DZA. Tracks 1, 2, 3, 8 and 9 of the project are produced by Troy Noka. Tracks 4, 5, 6, and 7 are produced by John G.
Recently, Dom Kennedy was featured on Nipsey Hussle’s Victory Lap and also featured on Eric Bellinger’s Easy Call, all while still managing to sign the first lady of his OPM record label, Aysha Money. The title and the content of Addicted to the Underground subtly make it clear that Dom Kennedy has no plans of signing a major label deal anytime soon.
