The initiative is planned to celebrate Black History beyond February and united with the creative group Saturday morning to bring year-round exposure to figures and organizations. These stories will be told in video, podcasts, and music. Pharrell’s contributions to the project come as Spotify’s way of empowering who define what is forthcoming.

Pharrell’s pieces for Black History is Happening Now will be exclusive video and playlist content. There will also be three original videos directed by Paul Hunter, co-founder of PRETTYBIRD and a frequent collaborator of Skateboard P. Those videos will be “Pharrell is Black History,” “A Very Serious Force” and “Something Awakening.” Those videos will highlight Pharrell’s insight into the culture that surrounds Black people and more.

“I think that what’s going to save not only this country but save the world are the Gen Z’ers, the Millennials and the women,” Pharrell speaks in A Very Serious Force.

Those words have motivated the streaming service to support rising Black female creators and will look for three Black women creatives to provide funding for content that supports those like them under the message of “black women are a very serious force.”
