Victims from the 2017 Las Vegas Massacre at the Route 91 Harvest Country music festival are being sued by MGM Resorts International. Newsweek reports over 1,000 of the victims at the Mandalay Bay on that tragic day will be sued to attempt to dodge any liability.
The owners of the hotel on the famed Las Vegas strip state they can’t be accountable for the loss of life and injuries caused by gunman Stephen Paddock. The Las Vegas Review-Journal shares the company states all claims that are set against the company “must be dismissed.”
documents from California and Nevada states ownership of the hotel and festival area took steps to avoid the type of incident that occurred meaning they have “no liability of any kind to defendants.”
With 58 people dead and another 850 injured, hundreds of lawsuits have poured in ranging from negligence toward the property and those staying in the hotel. Robert Eglet, Las Vegas lawyer, states the suits against victims are “blatant display of judge shopping” and “quite frankly verges on unethical.”
Speaking to 8 News Now, MGM spokeswoman Debra DeShong stated: “The unforeseeable events of October 1 affected thousands of people in Las Vegas and throughout North America.
“From the day of this tragedy, we have focused on the recovery of those impacted by the despicable act of one evil individual. While we expected the litigation that followed, we also feel strongly that victims and the community should be able to recover and find resolution in a timely manner.”
To date, there is still no motive discovered for the deadliest massacre in modern United States history.
