Since the release of “Level Up” last week, the latest single by stage-rocking singer Ciara has taken over social media. Many have embraced the song’s message and visuals, and the women-empowering dance track has also sparked a new dance challenge too. While many of us are still doing the Shiggy (the challenge that gave Drake his third number one song) we live in a pretty instant world, where three weeks can seem like three months. CiCi has inspired a new challenge with “Level Up,” produced by J.R. Rotem and sampling DJ Telly Tellz’s “Fuck It Up Challenge.” His song is a Jersey Club remix to Fun’s “We Are Young.” Rotem has produced and written for Rihanna, Sean Kingston, Mya and many more. In the new song, “f**k it up” is replaced by “level up.” Fans have always been amazed by Ciara’s dancing ability, and the Parris Goebel-choreographed (and directed!) visual is the perfect platform for Ciara to display her moves.

Although Ci and Rotem may be unfamiliar with Jersey Club, the acknowledgment must be made and extended. The song has taken massive momentum and will only grow from here. “Level Up” has the power to bring the renowned Jersey Club genre to mainstream media. With help of social media, it’s destined to do so. Expect to see a number of Jersey Club connoisseurs take this challenge by storm and f**k it up.
