Erykah Badu is highly versed in many different talents that go beyond the arts and blesses civilization. The Soulquarian has been a licensed doula since 2011 and has delivered over 40 babies as of today. In a recent interview with Elle UK, Fenty model Slick Woods expressed her love for the Baduizm singer’s profile as a mother and revealed she has chosen Erykah Badu as her doula for the birth of her first child.
“She’s a mommy role model. A mother I look up to, who kills her shit and is a boss-ass bitch,” Woods said of Badu.
The soul empress spoke on her deeds as a doula in a 2015 interview with Pitchfork. Her coming into the talent where she stands as a tranquil guide for expectant mothers was triggered by her own experience with motherhood. “I became a doula by default,” Badu said later delving into the timing and revealing she plans to open her own practice: “A home birth is about being able to create exactly what you want, because it’s such a violent moment inside of the body that you want everything else to be as beautiful as it can be. So I started studying to be a doula and got my certification in 2011 and now I’m in training to become a midwife. I’m almost there and before I know it I’ll be able to open my own practice, if that’s what I desire.”
Woods, who is almost eight months pregnant is recognized for poses in the 2015 Yeezy lookbook and is the face of Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty brand and Fenty x PUMA fashion line. The 21-year-old model is expecting a boy in September whom she named after his birthstone, Saphir. “My son’s going to be gorgeousss,” she uttered. With the ever so soothing Badu as her birth companion, Woods is bound to have a grand experience entering motherhood.
