In light of the news regarding Colin Kaepernick’s name omission from NFL Madden 19, Van Lathan is leading the charge to support the former NFL quarterback’s Know Your Rights Campaign instead of purchasing the game.
“Less outrage … more outreach. @eamaddennfl and the @nfl tried to make our brother @kaepernick7’s name a dirty word. Not gonna happen,” Lathan wrote. “His work will continue and we will see to it. Instead of buying Madden, I’m donating 59.99 (the cost of the game) to Colin’s Know Your Rights Campaign, so he can continue the WORK he’s doing.”
The message from Lathan went on to tag Charlamagne Tha God and Angela Rye for the donation challenge. Charlamagne has already responded to the call to action by making a donation and tagging Angela Yee, T.I., Rapsody, DJ Envy, among others.
The censoring of Colin Kaepernick’s name is the second time the video game franchise has attempted to cast aside the quarterback. This year the censorship came during Big Sean’s verse on YG’s single “Big Bank,” which both artists reveal they had no knowledge would occur.
