Over three dozen people were shot in the streets of Chicago this past weekend, from midnight on Saturday(August 4) to early Sunday morning.

Four deaths were reported in the 40 shootings, according to Chicago Police. This weekend carnage comes as the city was ready to celebrate the decrease in gun violence. There were 533 fewer shootings as of August 1 than the same time period last year, The Chicago Tribune recently reported.

According to Time Magazine, almost all of the shootings were gang-related.

25 people were shot in the city’s West Side, while the other shootings occurred at a block party, a concert in downtown Chi-Town and even a funeral were the other sites where the gunshots rang over the weekend.
