Franklin’s hit song ‘Freeway of Love’ inspired the move to bring in pink Cadillacs.

It was a sea of GM’s finest: El Dorados. Coupe de Villes. Escalades.

And, of course, there was plenty of fin power.

Last week, Mary Kay national sales director Crisette Ellis put out a call for employees of the cosmetics firm and anyone else who owned a pink Cadillac to turn out for Aretha Franklin’s funeral.

At her final public viewing, at New Bethel Baptist Church, Aretha Franklin was dressed in a rose gold custom knit suit with pink beaded lace. She also wore a specially made pink South Seas pearl necklace and earring and rose gold sequin Christian Louboutin heels.

Cadillac took out a pink, full-page ad in the Detroit Free Press and Detroit News to that summed it up with its logo and a word: r-e-s-p-e-c-t.
