Warner Bros. has announced that the Harley Quinn spinoff film, Birds of Prey, will be released in theaters on February 7, 2020.
Via TheWrap, it was also announced that the second round of actresses will “test this week” for other members of Quinn’s crew and beyond.
Birds of Prey stars Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, a character she first portrayed in 2016’s Suicide Squad. Robbie will also be producing the film.
Quinn will be joined by Black Canary, Cassandra Cain, Huntress, and Renee Montoya and a Batman villain, Black Mask, is reportedly set to be the primary antagonist in Birds of Prey.
Cathy Yan (Dead Pigs) has been tapped to direct the upcoming DC movie. The studio was dead set on getting a female director to helm the project and Yan bested the competition. It’s expected that Birds of Prey will enter production in early 2019, which makes sense given this new release date.
The movie will follow in the footsteps of the highly-anticipated Wonder Woman 1984, which hits theaters in early November 2019. The studio will be riding a massive wave of comic book girl power for a handful of months.
Fans will not have to wait too long to see Robbie as Harley. Suicide Squad 2 is slated for a late 2019 release with it being rumored to feature Ben Affleck as Batman for the final time.
