[jwplayer 8FPM0Apn]Sound Proof: Drumma Boy Takes Us Through His Decade of Making Hits For Jeezy, Migos and More Keenan Higgins October 4, 2018 Digital Entertainment, Exclusives, Hip Hop Music | Listen To and Download Hip Hop Tracks, Interview Some people can make beats. Others can even make a hot song. However, to really be considered a certified producer with award-winning status, it takes a combined set of skills, knowledge and an overall ear for crafting up fire instrumentals that will send a song flying up the charts and burned into the consciousness of listeners. For those trying to make it in the game on that level, we bring you the latest interview for Sound Proof — The Source TV’s ongoing web series that brings you deeper into the minds of some of your favorite geniuses behind the mixing board. So, who better to help kick things off again that with Drumma Boy — a seasoned vet in the southern rap scene at making banging beats. From his GRAMMY-nominated production on Jeezy’s “Put On” back in 2008 (“Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group”) to his GRAMMY-winning work on the deluxe edition of Usher’s 2010 album Raymond v. Raymond (“Best Contemporary R&B Album”), Drumma Boy has seen his fair share of platinum plaques. The Tennessee-bred music composer stopped by The Source HQ recently to give us a trip down memory lane, as he discussed what it was like helping to spearhead the south’s takeover of Hip-Hop in the mid-2000s, bringing Jeezy’s ’08 summer smash to fruition, working with Migos to have everyone in the world (Cam Newton especially!) hitting the dab since 2015, and how a generation of ’90s southern rap legends — Outkast, 8Ball & MJG, and the Geto Boys all included — helped inspire him to become one of the leaders in his field. Check out the latest “Sound Proof” feature by watching the full interview above, and follow Drumma Boy on Instagram and Twitter as he continues to put us on with even more fire beats.
