Clearly, there are some phony fundraising events taking on the appearance of tributes to the late Mac Miller, and his family has had enough of it. In an announcement given to XXL, Mac’s family emphasizes that the only official fundraising event is the upcoming Mac Miller: A Celebration of Life show.
“The family of Malcolm McCormick, known best to the world as Mac Miller, has become aware of a number of fraudulent events recently announced under the guise of fundraising for causes on his behalf,” the statement begins. “It should be known that the only event sanctioned by his family and contributing to The Mac Miller Circles Fund is the ‘Mac Miller: A Celebration Of Life’ event taking place in Los Angeles on October, 31. While the intent of further celebrating Malcolm’s life through these various efforts is appreciated, it is important that it be known to paying fans which of these are official or not. For all official Mac Miller news and information please refer to tmmcf.org.”
It’s unclear which fake events are the ones in question, but it’s clear that the rapper’s family want to avoid any confusion. The Celebration of Life charity show was announced a week ago and highlights a packed list of performers.
Among rappers making that big appearance to pay reverence to Mac Miller will be Action Bronson, Anderson .Paak, Chance The Rapper, Earl Sweatshirt, J.I.D, Schoolboy Q, Travis Scott, Ty Dolla $ign and Vince Staples. Different artists include, John Mayer, Miguel, SZA, Thundercat and the sky is the limit from there.
The proceeds from the event will go towards Mac Miller’s Circles Fund, which gives “programming, resources and opportunities to youth from underserved communities” through arts and community building.” Apart from that, it will likewise be an open door for Mac’s fans, companions and folks in the music industry to adapt to his less than ideal passing.
He passed away on Sept. 7 from what has broadly been announced a drug overdose, however, a correct reason for death still can’t seem to be determined.
