Kanye West is scheduled to take the Saturday Night Live stage tomorrow to perform new music, probably from Yandhi, amid the show’s 44th season debut. But according to the series creator, Lorne Michaels, Ye wasn’t SNL’s first pick.

In a recent podcast interview with James Andrew Miller, as Stereogum brings up, Michaels clarifies the group picked Kanye after Ariana Grande dropped out of earlier this month. “We had Ariana drop out for emotional reasons two days ago,” he says, meaning this conversation was likely recorded before they announced Ye’s performance on Sept. 17. “That’s our premiere, and then Kanye stepped up, and he’ll be there.”

Its a well-known fact Grande is mourning the loss of her ex Mac Miller, who passed away on Sept. 7. Fans were concerned for the singer’s mental health after she posted the following tweets:

It’s probably the best that Grande chose to sit this one out. Her beau and SNL cast member, Pete Davidson, went on Late Night with Seth Meyers Thursday to dish on the new season. He praised the show’s up and coming to host Adam Driver otherwise known as Kylo Ren otherwise known as the white cop from BlacKkKlansman. “He’s like very calm and like an adult and respectful,” he said of Driver. “He’s like a marine.”

Davidson likewise revealed to Meyers he “heard some pretty wild things” about Kanye West’s upcoming performance. For those as yet riding for Ye, they just need to hold up somewhat longer to perceive what wild stuff may be in store. Given his ongoing tricks, it’s not very hard to envision.
