The suitcase containing 38 kilograms is now being investigated by Homeland Security and the Port Authority Police Department.

It was seized by US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Brooklyn airport last Wednesday after having arrived on a flight from Quito, Ecuador.

A police source told the New York Daily News that no one has come forward to claim the suitcase and it is unclear whether that person or someone else was intended to retrieve it from the airport.

The narcotics weighing more than 100 pounds are said to have a street value of some $1.3 million.

“This seizure is another example of CBP officers being vigilant in protecting the United States from the distribution of dangerous drugs,” Troy Miller, director of CBP’s New York field office, said in a press release.
