Trump’s Former Lawyer Sentenced to Three Years in Prison

Another domino has fallen in the investigation against Donald Trump. Michael Cohen, Trump’s former lawyer, and fixer, was sentenced Wednesday to three years in prison after pleading guilty to nine federal charges. The charges stem from his failure to report millions of dollars in income and making secret payments to women who claimed they had affairs with Trump. All of these charges implicate Trump as a co-conspirator.

One of the charges against Cohen was his lying before Congress about his dealings concerning a proposed Trump Tower in Moscow. The charges were levied against Cohen by special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe into the Trump campaign’s potential collusion with Russia in the 2016 election.

Cohen entered the Manhattan courtroom accompanied by his wife and two children, said blind loyalty to Trump led him to “choose darkness over light.”

He lamented, “Recently the president tweeted a statement calling me weak and it was correct, but for a much different reason than he was implying. It was because time and time again I felt it was my duty to cover up his dirty deeds… I am truly sorry, and I promise I will be better.”

Meanwhile, President Donald Trump has reportedly not shown up for work today.
