It should come as no surprise that hip-hop is the most popular genre of music in 2018. It is everywhere, not just the music but the culture itself. You can see big commercial brands using Hip-Hop language in their tweets and social media posts.

More and more Hip-Hop celebrities are the faces of these brands everywhere, Cardi for Tom Ford Beauty, Drake with Sprite and Jordan Brand, and Post Malone even has Crocs that have sold out twice! Everyone wants in on the culture and it is the music that sets the tone, so of course, about 80% of the top selling albums of 2018 in any genre were Hip-Hop projects.

Number one is Drake’s Scorpion, which moved 3,692,000 units followed by Post Malone’s 3,046,000 units. Coming in fourth place was Cardi B’s Invasion Of Privacy, which sold a total of 1,926,000 units and rounding out the 5th spot was Travis Scott with Astroworld which sold 1,753,00 albums. That’s just the top five, the only non-Hip-Hop album in that company was “The Greatest Showman,” a compilation soundtrack released by Atlantic Records.  Other Hip-Hop artists in the top 15 include Migos, XXXtentacion,  J. Cole, Post Malone again for Stoney, Lil Wayne, Juice WRLD, Kendrick Lamar and Eminem. Not too shabby, huh? Take a look at the Year To Date Top 50 Chart Below.
