A 7-year-old Texas girl was killed Sunday morning in a drive-by shooting outside a Walmart near Houston, authorities said.
According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Department, LaPorsha Washington, 30, was driving out of the Harris County store’s parking lot with her four children when a man inside a red truck started shooting into their car, then fled.
Washington’s daughter, Jazmine Barnes, 7, was shot and killed. Washington suffered a gunshot wound to the arm, and a 6-year-old child also was hurt. The extent of the second child’s injuries was not immediately clear.
Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez described the suspected shooter as a white man in his 40s with a beard.
It is believed that the shooting was racially motivated and is being looked into as a hate crime.
