New reporting reveals that Queen Bey may have violated a law meant to benefit visually disabled people when using the internet. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Beyoncé’s Parkwood Entertainment is being sued by a blind woman who claims that she needs a companion when surfing Beyoncé.com.
Mary Conner, the blind woman suing Beyoncé’s company, claims the website is, “an exclusively visual interface,” that prevents her from operating the site and make purchases by herself. The lawsuit was filed in the Southern District of New York.
Conner’s class action lawsuit claims that she has “no vision whatsoever” and that Parkwood was negligent in making the site fully visual. The lawsuit claims that the pop star’s site hinders more than 8 million people in the United States who are visually impaired, 400,000 of whom live in New York.
Among other things, Conner and her lawyers are seeking a fix to the website as well as “compensatory damages in an amount to be determined by proof, including all applicable statutory damages and fines, to Plaintiff and the proposed class for violations of their civil rights under New York State Human Rights Law and City Law.”
Parkwood nor Beyoncé has yet to issue a statement on the lawsuit.
