In 2010 at the NAACP Image Awards, Phylicia Rashad was named the “The Mother of the Black Community.” Rashad is now bringing her mothering skills back to NBC as she begins a new recurring acting role.

Famously known for her iconic role as Clair Huxtable on The Cosby Show, Phylicia Rashad will guest-star in an episode of This Is Us, as reported by Entertainment Weekly. Rashad will be playing the role of Carol, mother of Beth (Susan Kelechi Watson). She will bring to life the backstory of Beth Pearson during the second half of the third season of the award-winning prime-time drama. While not much is known about Beth Pearson’s past, with Phylicia Rashad coming aboard, the audience is in for a treat.

Watson was extremely excited about the news so much that she posted it on Instagram.

Phylicia Rashad is an accomplished Tony-winning actress who also received two Emmys nominations for The Cosby Show. Rashad is also enjoying a recurring role as Diana Dubious on the Fox drama Empire.

Rashad hit the big screen last year in the hugely successful sequel Creed II, reprising her role as Mary Anne Creed.

This Is Us returns from its winter break on Tuesday, Jan. 15 at 9 p.m. ET on NBC.
