2018 was all about the fictional African nation of Wakanda, the future of film will take us back to Zamunda. Eddie Murphy confirms that he will return to the screen as Prince Akeem in Coming To America 2.

The sequel to the comedy classic will bring back the original director for the film, in addition to bringing in rising comedian Craig Brewer.

“After many years of anticipation, I’m thrilled that Coming to America 2 is officially moving forward,” Murphy said in a statement. “We’ve assembled a great team that will be led by Craig Brewer, who just did an amazing job on Dolemite, and I’m looking forward to bringing all these classic and beloved characters back to the big screen.”


The original film was the story of Prince Akeem traveling to America to find his wife after he was not thrilled about the choices that were picked for him by his parents who were African royalty. Deadline details the sequel will feature Akeem returning to America because he has a long lost son. The film is also stated to hopefully bring back Arsenio Hall, James Earl Jones and the rest of the cast from the original.
