Happy Chinese New Year!

Today officially begins the Year of the Pig, which we’ve already been gearing up for on the style side with help from Nike, Gucci and most recently Mitchell & Ness. The first official drop to jumpstart the celebration comes by way of adidas and ABC’s Fresh Off the Boat creator Eddie Huang, giving us a collaborative UltraBOOST colorway inspired by the traditional red & gold color theme seen throughout Asian culture.

Paying homage to Huang’s primary career as a renowned chef and food personality, the lookbook for this special edition release carries a “Chinee Boyz BBQ” theme as a reference to the food party series Huang launched last year. The colors are similar to what you’d see at a traditional Chinese Lantern Festival, with the red being the prominent hue on the knit upper and gold being featured more as outlining accents. There’s also a few pink accents as well to signify the animal at the center of the festivities, making for a well-thought-out sneaker drop that properly represents the culture to a tee. As the Year of the pig is meant to bring in luck and peacefulness, the Chinese character for “Good Fortune” is etched onto the heel in gold for a perfect finishing touch.

The Eddie Huang x Ultraboost CNY will first be sold exclusively during a special “day in the life of Huang” episode of NTWRK LIVE on Thursday (February 7) at 5PM PST, before dropping as a limited edition release in the US and Canada for $200 USD at select retailers and online.
