After giving us an exclusive look behind the creation of DYNE’s SS19 collection last year, designer Christoper Bevans is back with yet another fire collection for the next big technical sportswear imprint, this time debuting the brand’s FW19 offering for New York Fashion Week Men’s at his alma mater FIT.

Tastemakers, press and a roomful of fashion-forward New Yorkers all crowded into the Midtown campus’s Pomerantz Gallery yesterday (February 5) to witness a presentation that truly felt like an art exhibition, all while DJ Mick (seen above) provided the perfect soundtrack to peruse through the latest fashion to on a sunny afternoon. Each look was displayed on mannequins spread throughout the space, one by one displaying the outdoors-meets-tech concept that inspired the collection as a whole.

Titled “Open Sourcing,” the DYNE FW19 collection was constructed this time by way of a partnership with Sabrina — they’ve been a leading manufacturing company in providing sustainable fabrics since the ’70s — allowing DYNE to experiment with water resistant membranes over combed yak fur that blends in perfectly with its roots in upcycling. A few notable details as well include a four-piece mini collab with Swarovski, the use of NFC chips for to-the-second supply chain info and a color palette that stretched from vibrant neon hues to a more seasonal color palette of olive and heather green.

We got a chance to catch up with the homie Bevans for a quick exclusive on what inspired the new digs overall. See what he had to say below:

“This season was really inspired by technology that we’ve gone through in time, and the materials I used bring that [idea] altogether. We pride ourselves on using technology for sustainable practices, but it can also create a lot of waste if we’re not using it in the right way. I love sport as much as I love tailoring, but also being fresh and appreciating the outdoors. That outdoor backdrop mixed with the technology — it’s a juxtaposed mixture all cooked up into one [collection]. I went to school here [at FIT] many, many years ago — 20 to be exact! — and being back feels full-circle.”

For DYNE stylist Eugene Tong, a noted figure in the fashion editorial world himself, creating the displayed looks was all about combining the best elements from past collections with newer ideas that called for the team to think a little more outside the box. “The approach was just kind of mixing it up but continuing the story of sportswear as everyday wear,” he told us, following up by stating, “[The styling was inspired by] bringing together the different types of fabrics and textures and creating more of a street look that still feels athletic.” You see it in the way he paired select pieces with footwear by Onitsuka Tiger, and especially with the face masks made from recycled tech junk (seen above) that act as a sort of centerpiece of the presentation.
