A host of ABC’s The View, Whoopi Goldberg has been away from the daytime talk show since February 5. The co-host of The View confirmed the seriousness of the illness that she is dealing with. Goldberg has been battling pneumonia and the due to the complications, reportedly was near death.
After being away for so long, she took time to give an update on her health status that was played on the show in a prerecorded video. “Hey, yes, it’s me. I am here. I am up and moving around. Not as fast as I’d like to be, but I am okay. I’m not dead,” she said.
As things turned for the worst, Goldberg gave more details about how her bout with pneumonia was more serious than she originally thought. “So, here’s what happened: I had pneumonia and I was septic. Pneumonia in both lungs, which meant there was fluid. There was all kinds of stuff going on. And yes, I came very, very close to leaving the Earth. Good news, I didn’t.”
Goldberg seemed hopeful that she will be returning to the Emmy-award winning show in the very near future. She said, “ Ladies, I can’t wait to see y’all. This has been, ugh, interesting and I’ll tell you about it when we’re all at the table. See you soon.”
Goldberg was grateful for her recovery and for all those who were concerned about her. She said, “Thank you for all of your good wishes, all of the wonderful things that people have been saying.”
Although the illness has been tough to deal with, Goldberg still found the humor in the situation. She joked, “Even people who are not huge fans of mine have actually said nice things about me. We all know that’s going to change when I get back.”
