This past week, iconic womenswear designer and former model Kimora Lee Simmons took Women’s History Month to announce that she had officially bought back Baby Phat — her legendary claim-to-fame label within the urban fashion industry. Even better, the label will be relaunching very soon with a new line of looks for the ladies.

As one of the premiere brands to represent the look of 2000s fashion from a female perspective, Baby Phat is sure to be welcomed by both women who wore it back in the day and the current wave of young stylistas who are still figuring out their personal steez for 2019. With Kimora back in the driving seat to flex her design skills as well, the future collections are sure to bring back that feminine flare that celebrities and around the way girls alike flocked to so many years ago. Welcome back!

Take a look at five things we hope the “new” Baby Phat is able to recreate for the current generation that believes fashion is prettier in pink:

Diversity on the Runway

One of the key qualities of Baby Phat was that with each runway show, magazine editorial and any campaign the brand was associated with, Kimora always made sure to include women of color in the conversation. Black, Asian, Latina and women of all backgrounds alike could feel comfortable rocking these clothes, and had no problem seeing themselves reflected in the advertisements.

Celebrity-Filled Fashion Shows

Kimora always found her pieces on the backs of the flyest Hip-Hop honeys in the game back in the day, including Beyoncé, Alicia Keys, female rap stars Eve and Lil Kim and even our dearly missed Princess of R&B Aaliyah to name a few. Even Britney Spears was down for a quick minute! We could definitely see women like Cardi B and Taraji P. Henson flexing in a velour tracksuit today.

Collaborations Outside of Fashion

Who doesn’t remember the “Baby Phat Phone”? All the girls loved it, and heck, even Cam’ron had his own i95 Baby Phat Nextel to match the classic pink fur steez. Bring these back for sure, Kim!

Fresh & Fly Fragrances

We only have two suggestions to add here: make sure some of the fragrances are unisex like these 10 good ones for spring 2019, and also have Kimora model every ad like the good ol’ days. Every. Single. One.

The Kitten Logo

One of the signature staples that most people associate with the label is the classic Siamese cat logo. Inspired by Kimora’s own pet feline Max, who unfortunately died back in 2004, it would only make sense to bring it back as a tribute to the four-legged muse that inspired it all.
