After months of complaints from fans disappointed at the 2019 film recreation of SEGA’s iconic video game series Sonic the Hedgehog, mainly concerning the titular character’s off-putting CGI makeover, it looks like their woes have finally been heard and something will be done about it before the film premieres later this year.
Thank you for the support. And the criticism. The message is loud and clear… you aren't happy with the design & you want changes. It's going to happen. Everyone at Paramount & Sega are fully committed to making this character the BEST he can be… #sonicmovie #gottafixfast 🔧✌️

Taking to Twitter, the film’s director Jeff Fowler (seen above) directly addressed the backlash he’s been receiving for a very long time now, stating, “Thank you for the support. And the criticism. The message is loud and clear… you aren’t happy with the design & you want changes. It’s going to happen. Everyone at Paramount & Sega are fully committed to making this character the BEST he can be…[sic],” ending his tweet with a playful “#gottafixfast” hashtag. Hardcore fans have of course been reacting with their own redesigns, like this one that WWE wrestler Xavier Woods showed off via Twitter, which looks way better if you ask us:
Yooooo so they are changing the design for sonic in the new movie! Very interested to see what it ends up looking like. The one fan rendition that I saw was awesome so fingers crossed #Sonic pic.twitter.com/pmERiKeqAA

While the Sonic film adaptation isn’t entirely trash — the beautiful Tika Sumpter stars as a female lead and people are already raving about Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik — let’s hope they do our furry hedgehog homie justice with these next round of edits. Quick suggestion: those chompers gotta go!
