When his very first single, “Danny Phantom” went viral, Kiga’s success had him feeling good like a rockstar. His highly anticipated latest release, “Wock$tar” talks about the Rock and Roll lifestyle he’s living. A feel good song full of energy and a catchy hook, it is the whole rockstar experience compressed into a song. Easy to sing along with, “Wock$tar” is a combo of new age rap with a bit of classic punk rock, making Kiga’s sound truly unique.
This talented artist makes all his songs sound different from one another. The popular “Danny Phantom” is HARD – a trap/drill vibe that you can blast out. For “Tan Co$ine,” Kiga used a mix of drill, very solid lyricism, a wicked hard beat and a next level flow with the beat. “Wock$tar,” his first major release in about a year, is a whole different rap with a hype feel and energy that builds. His preference for mixing it up is reflected in the list of his greatest musical influences: Michael Jackson, Tupac, 2 Chainz, Chief Keef and Jay-Z.
Based in Hackensack,NJ a Jersey native with Trinidadian roots, Kiga has been passionate about music his whole life. Incredibly versatile, he applies his poetry background to his songwriting. For Kiga, writing lyrics is like piecing together a puzzle. He enjoys the wordplay, throwing puns, similes and metaphors into his work. “I take my music and compress it into my thoughts and expression of my feelings, and I express it in a way that I want to,” Kiga said. “But I have to put it in a way that’s gonna be consumer friendly so that my listeners can understand what I’m saying.” Kiga’s lyrics can have multiple meanings. If you listen to a track 10 or 20 times, he guarantees you will pick up something new. Everybody gets something different out of his music.
Being a rapper in New Jersey has its advantages. The densely populated area makes it easy to reach many people in a small radius. But Kiga finds that, because the northeast is not as neighborly and connected as other regions, it is harder for artists to succeed because they are not overly supportive of each other.
That doesn’t stop Kiga from moving forward. As he says “I been working lately, n***** never lazy / I know they be talking, baby / sh*t don’t even phase me!” His recently launched merchandise is available through Instagram for anyone who wants to rock a Wock$tar shirt. He has plenty of new music on the way, including a major release promised to be a home run and a half.
