R&B/Hip Hop Artist Angelynn is a woman firmly at the helm of her own music career. The Singer/Songwriter launched her own label, Angelynn Entertainment, earlier this year. She also co-directed her latest music video and edited the footage herself.
Following the success of her “No Love Lost” single, Angelynn released her second music video from her EP, “Gigi.” A song she feels strongly connected to, the video for “Flow” was a collaboration between Angelynn and videographer/co-director Lil Reno of LSOFilms. Sticking with a “flow” theme, their video creation was based around water and filmed at parks around the Portland area.
Angelynn likes to go with the flow, and the song depicts the kind of person she is. Not looking too far ahead or too far back, she chooses to focus on the now. Angelynn also shows an alter ego in other songs. “I like to have a wide range of music and I like to have controversial music,” she asserts. While her previous single, “No Love Lost” portrays a cheater out for revenge who is vastly different from Angelynn, “Flow” is more about who Angelynn truly is. “I think when it comes to music, a lot of people think that it always has to be real … it has to be something that happened in your life.” Singing “No Love Lost” felt good for her because people can relate to the hurt, even if she would handle the situation differently herself.
When she was working over 40 hours a week at an office job, Angelynn did not have time to work around the schedule of others. She invested in a home studio with high quality equipment – “Flow” and all tracks from the “Gigi” EP were recorded there. Not many female artists have their own studio. “I feel like a lot of women need to start getting their own studio and creating when it’s on their time,” she said. Angelynn can get into the singing vibe when she needs to, but finds it most effective to record when already in that head space. “When you have your home studio, you can be creative when you want.”
Music is a labor of love for Angelynn who spent one and a half years completing “Gigi.” She was determined to get the best quality sound and to fit recording and mixing into her busy schedule. She is inspired to push forward by her creative family members – she and her older twin sisters are just starting to learn the business side of music. Also inspiring her at different times are other family members, local musicians and big name artists such as Eric Bellinger, Christ Brown, Drake, Jazmine Sullivan, Michael Jackson, Tupac and Wiz Khalifa.
Running her own show means that Angelynn keeps busy. Her next video has already been shot and she plans to begin editing after she completes another project with Lil Reno. Her goal is to release a new music video for her song, “Good Energy” by her birthday on October 9.
Together with running her own record label and launching a videography service, Angelynn is serious about her development as an artist. She just started learning to play piano and read music. “I want to make sure I’m bettering myself every day when it comes to me as a musician.” Watch out for more exciting musical entertainment from this motivated and committed artist.
