For many Hip-Hop celebrities and regular people alike, Thanksgiving is a time not just for celebration, but also for sharing one’s blessings and bounties with others. The first Thanksgiving was reportedly about how the pilgrims and Native Americans shared the fruits from their first year’s crops. This Thanksgiving season, hip-hop icon Jermaine Dupri partnered with PETA and the Southwest Ecumenical Emergency Assistance Center (SWEEAC) to provide vegan Thanksgiving meals (including roasted vegan turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, mushroom gravy, and vegan pumpkin pie) to those in need this past Saturday in Atlanta.

All items were certified vegan which means that they are free of saturated animal fat and cholesterol and no animals were killed or animal byproducts were used. For Dupri, the vegan lifestyle is an important part of how he lives a healthy lifestyle and supports the planet. “I’ve been vegan for over a decade, and for me, there’s nothing better for feeling your best and knowing you’re helping the planet and animals,” Dupri said in a press release. “The holidays are about the spirit of giving, and PETA and I want to give people in Atlanta a Thanksgiving meal that’s healthy, humane, and delicious.”

Dupri and his co-hosts also gave away Tofurky Roasts and guests also received free vegan starter kits, which taught them how to make vegan meals at home.

The event was ultimately a success with Dupri posting the following on his Instagram:

Today, we’re in my hometown of Atlanta at the West Hunter Baptist Church with @peta and their non- profit partners (@sweeac, and Hands on Atlanta) serving up some delicious vegan food to share with the community.🎥 @keepitexclusive

Here’s to hoping that all hip-hop artists and readers also have a happy and safe Thanksgiving!
