Gelo is not an official member of the Oklahoma City Blue G-league team, but to be a part of the organization has to feel good after the rollercoaster hoop career he’s been having. Like his older brother Lonzo, Gelo was set to play for UCLA before a scandal with teammates in China forced the University to suspend the former Chino Hills baller.

Instead of waiting out the indefinite suspension, Gelo’s father LaVar pulled him out of UCLA to play overseas before entering the NBA draft in 2018. Gelo Ball landed a few workouts but still went undrafted.

It is common for a G-League team to bring in practice squad players, but if the 21-year-old makes an impression he could see his stock rise and possibly play in the NBA one day. Gelo’s younger brother LaMelo whom he played overseas in Lithuania has been making an impression on NBA scouts. Now playing in Australia, LaMelo reportedly is viewed as a lottery pick in the next NBA draft.
