According to several confirmed reports, a 2018 tweet from President Trump could’ve been the spark of the Iran airstrikes this week that left General Qassem Soleimani of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps dead.
A little less than two years ago after acknowledging a threat made towards the U.S. by Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, Trump tweeted, “Never, ever threaten the United States again or you will suffer consequences the likes of which few throughout history have ever suffered before. We are no longer a country that will stand for your demented words of violence & death. Be cautious!”
Soleimani responded to Trump during a speech at a military base in Hamdan in 2018, saying, “Mr. Trump, the gambler! You are well aware of our power and capabilities in the region. Come, we are waiting for you. We are the real men on the scene, as far as you are concerned. You know that a war would mean the loss of all your capabilities. You may start the war, but we will be the ones to determine its end.”
Eighteen months later, the man who prayed for martyrdom as the fulfillment of his life as a fighter for the Islamic Revolution was granted his wish.
