Shams Charania of The Athletic report Dwight Howard is the first confirmed participant in this year’s dunk contest. The future Hall-of-Famer and Lakers big is having a bounce-back year in a reserve role for the Lakers and is looking to bring back his “Superman” dunks that were key in his headlining spots in the dunk contests from 2007-2009. DH12 won previously in 2008.

Yahoo Sports’ Chris Haynes details Rookie of the Year favorite Ja Morant is mulling over an offer to participate in the contest. He recently wowed audiences by almost putting Cleveland Cavaliers forward Kevin Love on a poster. Zach Lavine of the hosting city Chicago Bulls and a former dunk champion is also considering playing. The fourth name that is floating around is high-flying Derrick Jones Jr of the scorching Miami HEAT.
