Wendy Williams is in the headlines again, but instead of the drama surrounding her personal life, the Hall of Fame Inductee is under fire for mocking Joaquin Pheonix’s cleft lip. Joaquin has been nominated for an Oscar for his role as The Joker.
In her “Hot Topics” segment this week on the show, Wendy Williams shared with viewers that she finds, the actor, “Oddly attractive.” Wendy Williams went to compliment Joaquin but viewers don’t seem to take the compliment to lightly. “When he shaves off his mustache, he’s got a hairline fracture. He’s got one those, what do you call it? Cleft Lip. He’s Got This,” Williams said as she fixed her lip to make her’s look like a cleft lip.
Viewers became so offended with Wendy’s actions that a Change.org petition has been started to fire the talk show host. “So this ignorant piece of work decided to mock Joaquin Phoenix and his ‘hare lip, cleft lip, palate’ on daytime television and even went as far as pulling her upper lip with her finger, she is a total disgrace,” The petition stated.
Following the high signatures in the petition, Wendy has taken to her Twitter to issue an apology and even made a donation to Operation Smile and The American Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Association. “@Bighill44 We’re thinking about Beau today as he is in surgery. I want to apologize to the cleft community and in Beau’s honor, our show is donating to@operationsmile and@AmerCleftPalate and encourage our Wendy Watchers to learn more and help support the cleft community,” she wrote.
It’s safe to say, Wendy Williams has learned a lesson to be more careful with her words in the future. Congrats to Joaquin Phoenix on his Oscars nomination!
