Recent reports revealed Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James was one of the last people to speak to Kobe Bryant before his helicopter crash. The night before King James passed The Black Mamba on the NBA All-Time Scorer’s List and received a call from Bryant on the way back to Los Angeles from Philadelphia. Additional Lakers would hear the call take place.

After news broke of Bryant’s passing, cameras caught a visibly distraught James as he tearfully strolled the tarmac after landing in L.A. After a hiatus from the public eye, James has released his first words on the death of a man who he referred to as a brother and a friend.

“I literally just heard your voice Sunday morning before I left Philly to head back to LA,” James wrote. “Didn’t think for one bit in a million years that would be the last conversation we’d have.”

Showing the extent of their relationship, James referred to Bryant’s daughter as “niece Gigi” while also detailing cherishing “the friendship/bond/brotherhood” the two shared.

“I promise you I’ll continue your legacy man! You mean so much to us all here especially #LakerNation,” James added. “It’s my responsibility to put this shit on my back and keep it going!!”
