Sony’s Columbia Pictures is developing the follow-up flick according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Details surrounding the film are under wraps but they’ve recruited Evan Daugherty, to write the script. Daugherty worked on Snow White, Huntsman, and the Tomb Raider reboot.

Sources told THR that the reboot will be a reimagining of the cult classic rather than another installment. They’re hoping that it will perform as well as the 2018 shark movie, The Meg, which grossed $530 million.

Anaconda wasn’t originally met with critical acclaim, but numbers don’t lie. The film grossed $136.8 million in the box office.

The original cast included Jennifer Lopez, Ice Cube, Jon Voight, Eric Stoltz, Jonathan Hyde, and Owen Wilson. A month before Anaconda dropped, Lopez starred in her breakthrough role as Selena in her self-titled biopic.

There’s no telling if Lopez or Cube will make a return, but it will be nice to see.
