Per Deadline, “Based on the pilot script by Akil and Greggory, I hear the CW brass made the decision not to move forward with the CBS TV Studios-produced project in its current form but were open to redeveloping it with Akil. I hear Akil, after consideration, declined the redevelopment offer as she and Greggory had executed her vision of what a next chapter of The Game should look like.”

The Game first premiered in 2006 and ended in 2015. The show was created by Mara Brock Akil and was a spin-off of the UPN show Girlfriends. The Game was centered around Derwin “Ding Dong” Davis played by Pooch Hall and Melanie “Med School” Barnett played by Tia Mowry-Hardrict.

In the show, Barnett puts her dreams aside from going to Johns Hopkins Medical school to be with her boyfriend Davis who was a rising star on the football team. In 2009 The Game was canceled from CW and was picked up by BET.
