It’s been a couple of years since Drake has released a full project. His last album, Scorpion, was 2 sides and 25 songs of material. Some listeners felt burdened by its length and the album received mixed reviews. Drake was interviewed while sitting courtside at the Raptors vs. Suns game and revealed that he is working on his sixth studio album.

“I’ve been doing this for like 10+ years as well… Sometimes you need to set a target goal for yourself just to keep it interesting,” Drake stated.

Later in the interview, Drizzy revealed that his Scorpion follow up will be shorter than his previous album.

“So, last album, I went high volume. It did two sides, 20-something songs, which is a lot of songs. This album, I’ll probably make it a more realistic offering, something more concise. Anywhere, whatever you want, it can be 10, 11, 16. I also do a lot of different types of music so it’s tough to make it like a seven-song album or something like that. Yea, I’m having a lot of fun right now making music.”

In an apparent and subtle jab at Kanye, Drake stated that “I also do a lot of different types of music, so it’s tough to make it like a seven-song album.” Kanye produced 5, 7 song albums during the summer of 2018 for his GOOD Music roster.

Scorpion was released in June 2018 following his beef with Pusha T, where Push revealed that Drake was “hiding a child.” However, that incident did not seem to hurt Drake’s sales. The album broke Spotify’s one-day global record with 170 million streams. The album debuted at number 1 on Billboard’s Hot 200 with over 700,000 album equivalents sold in its first week of release.
