The Paul Rosenberg era at Def Jam Recordings has come to an end. The seasoned industry vet stepped down from his role as Chairman & CEO to launch a new joint venture with Universal Music Group, Goliath Records.
Rosenberg, who is also Eminem’s manager, became CEO just two years ago, but now will operate as a consultant to Def Jam on its legacy artists, Music Business Worldwide reports.
Rosenberg will not be short on work as he will continue to serve as President of Shady Records.
Universal has named Naim McNair, Senior Vice President of A&R at UMG as the Senior Vice President, of A&R at Def Jam, while they are in search of a new CEO for the label.
“Lucian offered me a dream opportunity to serve at the helm of Def Jam. The experience I had running one of the greatest, most storied record companies of the modern era was incredible,” Rosenberg said of his departure. “I will remain forever grateful. I’ve learned a great deal, but one of the most important things I learned is that my ability to multi-task is not without limits.”
