The forthcoming video games will be non-simulation experiences, which would take them out of direct competition with the Madden NFL video game franchise led by EA sports, USA Today reports.

We’re thrilled to be back in business with the NFL in a partnership that will span multiple video games centered on fun, approachable and social experiences,” said David Ismailer, President of 2K, in a statement.

Games are expected to hit shelves in the 2021 year and are currently in the “early development” stages.

The last 2K football video game was NFL 2K4. The company was bumped out of the market with EA Sports signed a deal with the NFL for exclusive licensing in 2005.
