Parents Seek Justice After Teen Daughter’s Organs Were Wrongfully Removed

The parents of two teenagers killed in a car crash are suing the Florida Highway Patrol claiming the bodies of their daughters were misidentified and switched causing the wrongful removal of one of the girl’s organs.

 On July 29, four teenagers were involved in a car crash. Their vehicle veered out of control hitting a utility pole causing the death of Deleigha “Leigha” Gibson 18, and Samara Cook 15.

The lawsuits seek unspecified damages from the FHP, Escambia County officials and two funeral homes.the lawsuit, also states despite all of the differences between the two girls, the bodies were switched and misidentified. One of the girls was an organ donor while the other was not.

 In an interview with ABC News, Deleigha’s father, Demetrius Gibson, said they are sad that they have to bury a child and all they wanted to do is have a proper burial

“Basically, we were heartbroken about that. We are just trying to get everything right and give her a proper burial.”

Both lawsuits are demanding a jury trial. At this time, no trial date has been set.
